"So I got my X-Drop background kit from @WestcottCo at West Photo today. LOVE IT. It literally set up in less than 3 minutes out of the box!"Jerry Voelker '@jvaudio'
Shooting outdoors rocks. When given the choice between shooting in a studio or out in the world, I'll drag my camera gear and subject out that door any day of the week. The sheer volume of different backgrounds and locations can be overwhelming if you're just starting out though. Thankfully every city out there thought […]
Amber McCoy from Westcott joins Henry's TV host Mark Shannon on stage at Exposure Spring 2012 to chat about some Photo Basics portable flash modifiers for the speedlight photographer.
At the end of every workshop I inevitably get asked the desert island question. If you don’t know what I mean it usually goes something like this: "If you had your camera, one Speedlight, and had to pick just a single light modifier, what would it be?" Similar to what would you bring with you […]

Here is a quick tip featuring Bob Davis using the Westcott Apollo and speedlites. Here I ganged 600EX RT's together all in the same group acting as one to give me more watt seconds of power. Notice how well ETTL responds to my on the fly changes in Aperture.
Here is a quick tip featuring Bob Davis using the Westcott Apollo Strip with the Grid and speedlites. He noticed a shipping pallet in the studio and used it to create the shadows on the wall. The Speedlight camera left was in group A manual mode 1/8th power with a Rogue Red Gel and 25" grid […]

Here is a quick tip featuring Bob Davis using the Westcott Apollo Strip with the Grid and speedlites. The Main Speedlite, in group A, is inside a Westcott Apollo Strip with a 40" grid and the second speedlite is in group B bare flash with the flash head manually zoomed to 200mm to vignette the light […]
The Apollo really is an awesome modifier and a staple in my lighting kit, both for speedlights and bigger strobes. The biggest advantage is its portability. I shoot mainly on location and to be able to produce this quality of light from such a small package is wonderful. The Apollo produces a very soft and even light, that I hadn't seen before when using speedlights. This is why it quickly became one of my favorite tools. That coupled with the added control of a softbox and the recessed front does wonders for eliminating spilled light allowing you to only light what you want.Erik Valind

It had been a few weeks since I've done a lit portrait, so I text my friend Leah and arranged something. I've had this location in mind for a while but hadn't had the chance to use it. It was a good job I had a torch with me because we couldn't see a thing […]
